It is yet another Thursday, and as you all know, it is time for the throwback joint of the week. This week’s joint comes from an artist who has thrived in this industry for over 26 years. Some refer to him as Mteule, others as Mawazo, and some as Moe Tekniks, representing the Makumbusho/Sinza area of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Born as “Juma Mohamed Mchopanga,” he is widely recognized by his stage name Jay Moe, a legendary hip-hop artist and songwriter from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, born on November 27, 1978. He is celebrated as one of the pioneers of the Bongo Flava music genre.

Jay Moe gained prominence in the early 2000s after being introduced to the public through his early groups, such as Wateule and Wabakiaji, before embarking on his solo career. He released his debut album “Ulimwengu Ndio Mama” in 2002, which is regarded as one of the finest hip-hop albums in Tanzania. His distinctive lyricism and storytelling quickly established him as a household name.

The joint we will focus on today is from this debut album, titled “Misosi, Mitungi Na Pamba,” featuring Mzee wa Commercial “A.Y,” born “Ambwene Yessaya.” This track discusses the theme of enjoying life. The title “Misosi, Mitungi na Pamba” translates to “Food, Alcohol, and Wardrobe.”

Both Jay Moe and A.Y were eager in their pursuit of a music career, making this collaboration timely. They demonstrated their lyrical prowess, supported by the beat produced by P Funk Majani from Bongo Records. This track is one of the standout songs from the album, which contains 15 tracks.
