The remix was released shortly after Diamond Platnumz shared a teaser of the original “Bongo Man” while in France, leading to speculation about his potential involvement in the remix. However, it is Mbosso, his mentee, who provides a remarkable contribution that enhances the overall artistry of this remix.

Zuchu, whose full name is Zuhura Othman Soud, is a distinguished Tanzanian singer-songwriter and performer affiliated with Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB), a music label founded by Diamond Platnumz. She is celebrated for her adaptability within the Bongo Flava and Afrobeat genres, frequently incorporating elements of Swahili culture and melodies into her musical compositions.

Her newly released album, titled “Peace and Money Album,” exemplifies her versatility and aspirations as a prominent figure in African music. The album comprises 13 tracks that skillfully merge Afrobeat, Bongo Flava, and various contemporary styles. It features a combination of solo performances and collaborations with esteemed artists, highlighting her capacity to engage with a wide range of audiences. Notable tracks include “Till I Die” featuring Nigerian artist Spyro, “Lollipop” with Yemi Alade, and “Wale Wale,” a compelling collaboration with Diamond Platnumz. Additional significant songs are “Tinini” featuring Kenya’s H_Art The Band and “Lullaby” with Majeed, enriching the album with diverse styles and influences.

Through tracks such as “Mama” and “Nimechoka,” Zuchu delves into personal and emotional narratives, while lively songs like “Antenna” and “Makonzi” are poised to energize dance floors. This album not only reinforces Zuchu’s position as a global African star but also honors her talent for blending traditional Swahili melodies with contemporary Afrobeat elements. The project is anticipated to engage fans throughout the continent and beyond, solidifying her role in the music industry.

The album is being launched under Wasafi Limited, in collaboration with Warner Music Africa and Ziiki Media.

THROWBACK | AFRO REIGN

This Thursday’s throwback group of the week highlights a notable ensemble that significantly influenced the Tanzanian music scene, particularly during the 1990s. Afro Reign, formed in June 1996, consists of Bonny Harmony (born Boniface Kalemera), Dray (born Raymond Mutagahywa), Nature P (born Sebastian Maganga, who balanced his education with hosting a show on Radio One), and Judy (born Judith Wambura, was still persuing her education), who is now recognized as “Lady Jaydee.”

Dray, whose father was a university lecturer, shares a similar educational background with his fellow members. Both Bonny and Dray credit their shift towards hip hop and rap to their enthusiasm for basketball. Dray was formerly associated with Kwanza Unit and currently resides in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he specializes in digital product and program management.

The group is known for their freestyling abilities, often choosing a theme for improvisation, followed by discussions to enhance their final output. Their debut track, “Afro Drama,” features elements of freestyling, boasting, and self-assertion. In the song “Rejuvenation,” each member delivers a verse.

Bonny Harmony

Afro Reign has recorded at Master J’s studio and collaborated with P-Funk. As none of the members are instrumentalists, they have utilized session musicians for specific recordings, while most of their instrumental backgrounds are sampled from existing rap tracks, in line with traditional rap practices. Their most memorable song, “Saa za Kazi,” features Hashim Rubanza, also known as “Hashim Dogo,” who is fondly referred to as Mwendawazimu anayependa fedha taslimu.
