Throwback Thursday | Soggy Doggy Anter – Sauti Ya Ghetto Ft Drez Chief & Jos Mtambo

It is yet another Thursday, and as per our tradition, we present a throwback track of the day. This week, our attention is directed towards my friend and family member, Anselm Ngaiza, widely recognized as Soggy Doggy Anter. Today, our focus takes us back to 1999, from his album titled Bongo New York, which features a song named “Sauti ya Ghetto“.

In this track, Soggy collaborated with Drez Chief from the group BDP Kamili, representing Kinondoni, and Jos Mtambo from Kigamboni, Dar-es-salaam. The phrase Sauti ya Ghetto is a Swahili term that translates to “Ghetto Sound.” The album also includes other well-known songs such as “I Love You Too” featuring Unique Sisters, “Kifo” featuring the late legend Dr. Remmy Ongala, among others.

The song consists of three verses, with each artist taking turns to deliver their verses, showcasing various rapping styles, metaphors, and lyrical patterns. Upon its release, this song received significant airtime on all FM radio stations in Tanzania.

Naseeb Abdul Juma Issack, widely recognized as Diamond Platnumz, is a prominent Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist, dancer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur.

His track “Msumari” serves as a poignant Bongo Flava love anthem that explores the profound themes of commitment, loyalty, and trust.

Featuring emotional lyrics and an unforgettable hook, Diamond urges couples to solidify their connection by “nailing it down with a hammer,” thereby safeguarding their relationship against jealousy, uncertainty, and external distractions. The song artfully combines heartfelt narratives with the smooth rhythms characteristic of Bongo Flava, illustrating why Diamond remains a leading figure in the East African music industry.

Born on September 23, 1999, in Shinyanga, Rapcha has gradually established himself as a talented songwriter, rapper, and performer whose sound deeply connects with audiences throughout East Africa.

His most recent release, “Lissa 3,” is a compelling single that dominates the airwaves and solidifies his status as one of the most promising figures in the Bongo Flava and hip-hop genres. With genuine emotion, incisive lyricism, and refined production, Rapcha presents a track that is both engaging and significant, mirroring his experiences and resilience amid personal loss and adversity.

Mabantu is a well-known Bongo Flava music group hailing from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, consisting of two gifted artists: Twarha Kanengo (Twarha Mabantu, born on July 9, 1997) and Mwarami Kajonje (Muuh Mabantu, born on January 21, 1999).

In their most recent release, “Spakoo“, Mabantu collaborates with Baddest 47, a Tanzanian artist renowned for his Afrobeat sound. Originating from a pastoral family, Baddest 47 opted for an unconventional route in the music industry, crafting a distinctive style that resonates with audiences throughout the region.

Together, they present a lively collaboration that fuses Bongo Flava and Afrobeat, making “Spakoo” an essential track to listen to.

Rosary Robert Iwole, widely recognized as Rosa Ree, is a Tanzanian rapper and singer who has significantly impacted the East African music scene. She collaborates with Edger Vincent Mwaipeta, known by his stage name Dizasta Vina a Tanzanian Hip Hop artist and music producer born on February 17, 1993, in Iringa. He is also a co-founder of the music collective Panorama Authentik.

Their joint effort, “Sauti Za Maskini (Remix)“, is a compelling track that highlights the oppression and injustices endured by the impoverished at the hands of politicians. The song underscores how the voices of the marginalized are frequently muted, conveying a raw and thought-provoking message through the medium of Hip Hop.

With every new release, MansuLi reinforces his status as a significant voice that embodies the essence of entertainment and culture, effectively bridging the divide between hip-hop artistry and Tanzania’s popular music scene.

Throwback Thursday | FDC – Kindumwendumbwe

In the early 2000s, Tanzania experienced a significant revolution in Rap music, leading to the rise of numerous Rap groups. Among these, Free Dogs Camp (FDC) gained considerable recognition with their hit song “Kindumbwendumbwe,” which brought them fame and became a popular topic of conversation in Dar.

Based in Kiwalani, Ilala district, Dar-es-salaam region the group was formed by three talented rappers: Ommy G, Nale Nale, and Pig Black, who particularly made FDC a subject of interest.

The song “Kindumbwendumbwe” is regarded as one of the most impactful tracks released in 2001, produced by the then-renowned and formidable producer, Miika Mwamba. The track was further elevated by the hardcore chorus from LWP (Majitu Mwitu Msitu) member “Sloter,” who showcased his unique hardcore style.

Ommy G’s commanding vocals reminiscent of Rapper DMX, Pig Black‘s rapid riffs akin to Treach of the group Naughty By Nature, and a dope chorus from Sloter of LWP (Live With Purpose) contributed to making “Kindumbwendumbwe” an exceptionally powerful track.

Who could forget Kindumbwendumbwe during that time? Anyone who experienced that electrifying beat from Miika Mwamba at the old FM Studio in Kinondoni found it impossible to remain still or refrain from nodding their heads.

All these artists continue to pursue their passions, living their lives as usual, while the remarkable contributions they made through this music scene (Industry) remain a cherished history for future generations.

Throwback Thursday | Imeditation Kingdom (I.K)

It is Thursday once more, and you are already aware that it is time to embark on a nostalgic journey and reflect on those days. Today’s throwback Joint of the week is dedicated to my friends from the very beginning (I.K) “Badi Sangu,” also known as (Killa B), along with another member of the group, “Matokeo Msigwa“, also known as (Double M), “Konja Mhagama” (Kon B), and my friend “Edger” (E.G) from the Kimara neighborhood, collectively referred to as IMEDITATION KINGDOM.

For today’s post, we will concentrate on the last two verses from the song titled TUCHEBE, which was recorded at Soundcrafters studio in 1997. This song is part of their album entitled “Kimara Flava.”
