
It is yet another Thursday, and we are pleased to present this week’s Throwback Thursday feature. Today, we will delve into a song by a female artist named Zey B, who significantly influenced the youth in Tanzania.

Zainab Lupangile, more commonly known as “Zay B,” was a groundbreaking Tanzanian musician, recognized as a leading female artist in the early 2000’s Bongo Flava and Hip Hop scenes. She gained immense popularity with her hit songs, including the original “Nipo Gado” and its remix featuring Juma Nature, “Hatari Kitu Gani” featuring Jay Moe, and “Njoo Kati” featuring Complex and A.Y. Her album, “Mama Afrika,” was officially released in 2002. She subsequently released her second album, “Kufa na Kuzikana,” in 2006.

Today, we will concentrate on the song “Njoo Kati,” which features the late Simon Sayi, also known as Complex, and Ambwene Yesaya, known as A.Y. In this track, these three artists boast and invite listeners to join them at the center to dance to their captivating beats and impressive flows.

Zey B passed away on May 31st, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in East African music. It is reported that she died at Aga Khan Hospital due to complications from ulcers that she was experiencing at the time.
