It is yet another Thursday, and in accordance with our tradition, we present a nostalgic track of the day. This week, we turn our attention to my friend and family member, who is widely known as Soggy Doggy. Today, we revisit the 90s with a song from his group Bantu Pound’s album titled Ilala, which includes the track “Bado Nakutesa“.

“Ilala” is a seminal early Tanzanian hip-hop album that was released in 1996 by the groundbreaking Bongo Flava group Bantu Pound Gangstaz (BPG), featuring members such as Soggy Doggy Anter , Profesa Ludigo Bishota, and Caz-T along with other affiliates like Nigger Pure and Kassie, are part of the broader crew history.

The standout track from this album is the well-known early radio single “Bado Nakutesa“, which played a significant role in launching Soggy Doggy Anter’s career since he solely performed the song while it was a group project and received extensive airplay in Mbeya and throughout Tanzania via IPP Media, including ITV, Radio One Stereo, CTN Radio, Radio Free Africa, and various local radio stations.

Anselm Tryphone Ngaiza, better known by his stage name Soggy Doggy (or Soggy Doggy Anter), is a trailblazing Tanzanian hip-hop artist. He is recognized as one of the foundational figures of Bongo Flava, the unique hip-hop and urban music genre of Tanzania.

Soggy Doggy gained even more fame in the early 2000s, working closely with the legendary Bongo Records producer P-Funk Majani. Some of his most notable tracks include: Nilisoma nae, Kibanda Cha Simu, Usingizi, Story and many others.
