Officially released on June 25, 2026, “Hallo” serves as a special offering from one of Tanzania’s most cherished musical couples. The song exudes a smooth romantic vibe, seamlessly blending Nandy’s gentle vocals with Billnass’ rap style over polished, contemporary production.

This release is particularly significant as it has been announced as their final collaborative effort. Throughout the years, Billnass and Nandy have created a robust collection of joint hits, including “Bugana,” “Do Me,” “Totorimi,” and their wedding celebration song “Bye.”

Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Mbosso born Mbwana Yusuf Kilungihas unveiled a new track titled “DJ,” a vibrant audio release that combines emotion, rhythm, and an energetic dance vibe.

Officially launched today, June 18, 2026, “DJ” is now accessible on major digital streaming platforms for fans to enjoy and download. This song marks a thrilling new direction in Mbosso’s music, establishing a closer connection with DJs to deepen his sound within clubs, streets, and fan playlists.

Musically, “DJ” merges Afrobeats rhythms with contemporary three-step grooves, resulting in a sound that is both emotional and suitable for dancing. The track narrates the tale of a restless heart and a troubled mind, encapsulating the internal struggle of an individual burdened by pain, pressure, and unexpressed emotions.

Through lyrical poetry and street-savvy metaphors, Mbosso conveys feelings of emotional fatigue, tears, and a yearning for escape through music. Amidst this turmoil, the DJ emerges as a figure of solace the one capable of transforming pain into rhythm and silence into sound.

Officially launched on Friday, June 19, 2026, “Jiulize” is a substantial project spearheaded by Azma Mponda, the artist and Executive Director of Aznas Company. The track showcases an impressive roster of rap luminaries, including Azma Mponda, Kalapina, P Mawenge, Rado, Junior Roman, Dark Master, QB, and One The Incredible.

The title “Jiulize” translates to “Ask Yourself” or “Question Yourself” in Swahili. The song conveys a powerful message of introspection, truth, awareness, and social consciousness, urging listeners to delve deeper into life, society, and the surrounding realities.

Designed as a lyrical Hip Hop cypher, “Jiulize” provides each artist with the opportunity to present sharp bars, strong flows, and thought-provoking lines. Renowned Tanzanian rapper Jay Moe, whose full name is Juma Mohamed Mchopanga, has unveiled a new solo single entitled “40 Bars.” This track represents a genuine Tanzanian Hip-Hop / Bongo Rap release, emphasizing authentic lyricism, storytelling, and a seasoned rap performance.

Officially launched on June 26, 2026, “40 Bars” was made available through “So Famous Entertainment“. The song is devoid of hooks and guest appearances, allowing Jay Moe to fully express an unfiltered hip-hop message.

In “40 Bars,” Jay Moe contemplates themes of survival, fame, loyalty, betrayal, and the enduring journey of maintaining relevance in the music scene. The track embodies an old-school hip-hop vibe, concentrating on real-life experiences and distinguishing between fleeting fame and lasting legacy.

Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Vanillah has unveiled a new song titled “Mtungi,” featuring Ibraah and produced by Mr T Touch. This song is the concluding piece on Vanillah’s EP, Listen to Me Again.

“Mtungi” acts as the energetic finale of the project, offering a more club-oriented sound in contrast to the softer romantic tracks found on the EP. Crafted by Mr T Touch, the song fuses uptempo Bongo Flava, Afro-pop, and Amapiano-inspired beats.

The term “Mtungi” is a Swahili word that denotes a pot or container, yet in the context of Bongo Flava music, it is often creatively employed to convey emotions, the nightlife experience, intoxication, or the burdens of personal stories.

This track also continues the collaborative synergy between Vanillah and Ibraah, who had previously teamed up on “Hakunaga.” With Ibraah now pursuing a solo career, this collaboration generates additional excitement for enthusiasts of contemporary Tanzanian music.

With this release, Vanillah is steadily gaining traction in anticipation of his upcoming EP, which is also set to include contributions from other prominent artists such as Barakah The Prince and Otile Brown.

Tanzanian R&B artist Jux born Juma Mkambala has unveiled a new Bongo Flava single titled “Kipepeo,” featuring Mbosso, a vocalist who formerly signed under WCB Wasafi or the group “Mkubwa Na Wanawe“. This song is a romantic duet that revolves around themes of love, beauty, and profound devotion.

Officially released on June 30, 2026, “Kipepeo” can be found on YouTube as a digital auto-generated track from African Boy Records. The song is published under “African Boy Records”, with Jux recognized as the main author.

The composition of the track was done by Jux and Salmini Maengo (S2kizzy), and Raymond Maziku. Musically, “Kipepeo” features a smooth Bongo Flava / Swahili R&B sound, allowing both Jux and Mbosso to showcase their soft vocals and heartfelt romantic lyrics.

The title “Kipepeo” translates to “Butterfly” in Swahili. In this song, the butterfly symbolizes beauty, attraction, and a love that has completely captivated the heart. It is important to distinguish this track from older songs sharing the same title, such as the classic “Kipepeo” by Jose Chameleone.

Throwback Thursday | G.W.M – Kipe Kitu

Today is Thursday, a day that holds significance. We celebrate G.W.M with their song “Kipe Kitu,” one of the two tracks that introduced them to the Tanzanian music industry.

G.W.M, which stands for Gangstas With Matatizo, is also known as Mazimwi, with “matatizo” meaning problems in Swahili. Adopting the persona of a U.S.-style gangsta rapper in Dar es Salaam certainly presents its own challenges.

Nevertheless, G.W.M has remained committed to reality rap, performing exclusively in Swahili and addressing the everyday struggles faced in the streets of Bongo. This term, a colloquial reference to Dar es Salaam, implies the necessity of intelligence to navigate life, as “bongo” translates to smart or clever in Swahili.

The group consists of three members: D CHIEF, born Robert E. Makala; EASY DOPE, born Richard Makala, who is D Chief’s elder brother; and K.R. MULLAH, born Rashid Ziada.

The music of the 90s had its distinct character. Special recognition is due to “DJ Boniluv,” whose real name is Boniphace Kilosa (see photo below), for producing this track and part of their album “Mikosi.” Their most well-known songs include “Cheza Mbali na Kasheshe” and the track we are discussing today, “Kipe Kitu.” K.R. Mullah and D Chief formed a formidable duo.

“Kipe Kitu” gained immense popularity, particularly at concerts, with the largest audience being secondary school students in the 90s. They were often compared to the American duo Das EFX due to their Igitty diggity rap style and stage presence.

In Swahili slang from Tanzania, “Kipe Kitu” means let’s leave or dip out of here.

Throwback Thursday | Ugly Faces – Wapambe Nuksi

It is Thursday once more, which signifies the arrival of Throwback Music, a moment for us to reminisce about the past filled with memorable melodies. Today, we will highlight the group “Ugly Faces” from Ilala Shariff Shamba in Dar-es-Salaam. This duo comprised two aspiring rappers who were keen to establish their presence in the music industry: Benjamin McDennis Kamtawa, known as Mac D, and Khatibu Amani, referred to as Easy Daz.

Our focus today will be on their debut single, which was recorded at Mawingu Studios in Mwenge, Dar-es-Salaam, under the production and engineering of Boniphace Kilosa, also known as DJ Boniluv.

Released in 1995, the single titled “Wapambe Nuksi” rapidly gained popularity, generating excitement among the youth during their performances at secondary school concerts. Its success was indisputable.

In 1996, they returned to the same studio to record a second single, once again collaborating with DJ Boniluv, after their manager at the time, Richard Mwandemani, also known as DJ Richmaka, secured the necessary funding. This second track, “Chachatika,” further cemented Ugly Faces’ position in the Tanzanian music landscape.
