THROWBACK | Mabaga Fresh.

It is another Thursday, and today our “Throwback Thursday” highlights the group “Mabaga Fresh,” also known as “Chombo Cha Dola.” This hip-hop duo consists of two individuals with disabilities, Jumanne Omary, commonly referred to as “JB,” and Chritoms Mwingira, known as “DJ Snox,” both hailing from Temeke, Dar-es-Salaam.

In the 1990s, this rap group made significant contributions to the Tanzanian “new generation music scene.” They played a pivotal role in introducing one of the most prominent and respected bongo flava artists, Juma Kassim Kiroboto, also known as “Juma Nature,” with their hit track “Mtulize,” produced by the legendary DJ Boni Luv.

Mtulize” became a major success and led to the release of several singles, including “Tupo Kamili” and “Hakuna Noma,” featuring Manzese Crew and Benjamin McDennis Kamtawa, also known as “Mac Dizzo,” prior to release of their full-length album titled “Utatanishi.” This album included additional collaborations with Balozi Dola Soul, Rocky Man, and Luteni Kalama.

Currently, Mabaga Fresh has shifted their focus away from music to engage in various daily activities to support themselves. They operate “Bajaji,” a three-wheeled motorcycle, to make a living. Additionally, they are mentoring an underground rap group from Temeke called “Watega Mabomu.”

You can listen to and stream 3 of their music, as well as watch “Mabaga Fresh’s” video below.
