Tanzanian rapper “Dizasta Vina,” whose real name is Edger Vicent Mwaipeta has teamed up with one of the most skilled lyricists from Mombasa, Kenya, “Kaa La Moto,” born Kessi Juma Mohammed, on a notable new track titled “Joseph na Johnny“.
The song was launched on August 29, 2026, serving as the third track on Side A of Dizasta Vina’s collaborative extended play (EP) named Ndugu Wa Mbali (Side A). The musical production of this project was handled by Dizasta Vina in collaboration with J’Cob, who also took charge of the mixing and mastering.
In line with Dizasta Vina’s established reputation for profound, metaphorical storytelling, “Joseph na Johnny” is crafted as a narrative directed towards a paternal figure. When Dizasta Vina references Joseph, he is alluding to the legendary rapper Joseph Haule, also known as Prof Jay, while Kaa La Moto refers to Johnny as the iconic emcee and founding member of the group Kalamashaka, John Vigeti.
In Verse I, Dizasta Vina adopts a respectful yet conversational tone, beginning by addressing “Bwana Joseph.” He expresses gratitude for his mentorship and wisdom, employing the metaphor of caring for Joseph’s daughter, which symbolizes the safeguarding of Swahili culture, heritage, and authentic literature. He pledges to shield her from the superficial aspects of the contemporary industry (“matozi wa mjini“).
In Verse II, Kaa La Moto presents a compelling verse that merges traditional hip-hop bravado with significant cultural critique. He continues the familial metaphor, reassuring the father that his legacy is secure while incorporating ongoing commentary on societal decline, persistent struggle (“Aluta continua”), and the importance of artistic integrity.
