Tanzanian Bongo Flava musician Marioo, whose real name is “Omary Ally Mwanga,” collaborates with Nigerian artist Chella, born “Uzochukwu Michael Ikechukwu,” on the vibrant remix titled “Sugar Remix.” This track is a cross-continental collaboration featured in Marioo’s EP, MMMCXII.

Positioned as the sixth track on the MMMCXII EP, “Sugar Remix” builds upon the success of Marioo’s original solo hit “Sugar,” which debuted on April 17, 2026. The original version garnered attention through the Sugar Challenge and its catchy phrase “Bia Tamu,” establishing it as one of Marioo’s notable romantic tracks.

AUDIO | Marioo Ft BabyDaiz – POMBE II (We Live Once)

The Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist known as Marioo was born Omary Ally Mwanga. He is a singer, songwriter, and producer, having entered the world on December 31, 1995, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Prior to his rise in the music industry with the 2018 hit “Dar Kugumu,” he gained experience working as a motor vehicle mechanic in his uncle’s garage.

Marioo has collaborated with South African artist BabyDaiz on the track “POMBE II (We Live Once),” which is an energetic party anthem featured on Marioo’s new MMMCXII EP.

This track serves as the final piece and acts as the closing song for the MMMCXII EP, which is set to be released on May 29, 2026. The production of “POMBE II (We Live Once)” is credited to Blvcq (Blvcq_Szn), with Kaniba Creator serving as the Executive Producer of the project.

POMBE II” combines elements of Amapiano and Bongo Flava, incorporating the prominent log drum sound that is characteristic of the South African dance music scene. As a follow-up to “POMBE I,” this song transitions into a more upbeat, club-oriented style.

Zainab Lupangile aka Zey B

It is yet another Thursday, and we are pleased to present this week’s Throwback Thursday feature. Today, we will delve into a song by a female artist named Zey B, who significantly influenced the youth in Tanzania.

Zainab Lupangile, more commonly known as “Zay B,” was a groundbreaking Tanzanian musician, recognized as a leading female artist in the early 2000’s Bongo Flava and Hip Hop scenes. She gained immense popularity with her hit songs, including the original “Nipo Gado” and its remix featuring Juma Nature, “Hatari Kitu Gani” featuring Jay Moe, and “Njoo Kati” featuring Complex and A.Y. Her album, “Mama Afrika,” was officially released in 2002. She subsequently released her second album, “Kufa na Kuzikana,” in 2006.

Today, we will concentrate on the song “Njoo Kati,” which features the late Simon Sayi, also known as Complex, and Ambwene Yesaya, known as A.Y. In this track, these three artists boast and invite listeners to join them at the center to dance to their captivating beats and impressive flows.

Zey B passed away on May 31st, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in East African music. It is reported that she died at Aga Khan Hospital due to complications from ulcers that she was experiencing at the time.

Tanzanian Hip-Hop artist Country Wizzy has made a triumphant return with a fresh single titled “Mademu,” an energetic Urban Bongo anthem that showcases his distinctive flow, self-assurance, and street-influenced delivery.

Mademu” was officially launched on May 29, 2026, under IAM Music Ltd and produced by Dacha. The track was composed and penned by Ibrahim Ayoub Mandingo, who is professionally recognized as Country Wizzy.

The term “Mademu” translates to “Ladies” in Swahili, and the song delves into themes of lifestyle, attraction, and social dynamics within the urban landscapes of Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. Musically, it fuses Hip-Hop rhythms with melodic Bongo Flava elements, remaining true to the Urban Bongo style that has defined Country Wizzy’s career.

This release comes in anticipation of Country Wizzy’s 15th Anniversary concert, set for June 6, 2026, where he is anticipated to commemorate his musical journey and perform some of his most recent tracks.

Throwback Thursday | Balozi Dola Soul – Nani Na Nani

Indeed, it is once again Thursday, and as you are already aware, it is
time for this week’s Throwback Joint. Our focus will be on a member of a
rap and hip hop group from Tanzania who achieved significant success in
the 1990s. This artist is known by the stage name Balozi Dola Soul,
also referred to as (Balozi Wenu) “Dolasoul

Balozi Dola Soul, born “Ahmed Dola,” began his career while he was a
student in Nigeria. He was raised in a family that prioritized
education, viewing it as the key to a better life. Initially, rapping
was merely a fun activity and not perceived as a potential career. After
completing his studies in the UK, Balozi returned to Tanzania and
pursued a career as a hip hop artist.

Upon his return to Tanzania, Balozi became a member of the rap group Tha
De-Plow-Ma-TZ
, which included other members who were sons of Tanzanian
diplomats. DPT stands for Tha De-Plow-MaTZ. Alongside Balozi Dola, the
group featured Saigon Treach, born “Saleeh Mzee,” Trip Dogg, whose real
name is “Philip Mwimanzi,” and Storm, known as “Amour Shamte.” The group
released their debut self-titled LP in 1997 and was recognized as the
best rap group in Tanzania in 1999.


The Throwback Joint from Balozi marks his initial solo project outside
of the group. The song, titled “Nani Na Nani,” poses the question to
fans and the masses, “Nani na nani yupo kwenye fani hii, nauliza nani na
nani
?,Essentially asking, “Who’s running the rap scene?” The song
gained popularity on radio stations such as Radio One Stereo, CTN
Radio, and Radio Free Africa, among others. It was released in 1999.



Balozi released his solo LP in 2002, titled Ubalozini. The album
featured a variety of hits, including “Kwenye Chati,” “Dini na Dunia Ft
Afande Sele
,” and “Homa ya Jiji Ft Immam Abbas, Mac D & Inspectah
Haroun
.”

Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Mbosso Khan has made a return with a fresh new track titled “Ozalima.” This song continues to showcase his distinctive Mahaba style, which combines emotional narratives, romance, and smooth melodies, solidifying his status as one of the most cherished voices in Tanzanian music.

Ozalima” was officially launched on May 21, 2026, and is one of Mbosso’s key projects for 2026, following the positive reception of tracks like “Darasa La Saba” and his collaboration with Alikiba on “Bhuju.” The announcement of the release was made through promotional posts prior to the official date, featuring Khan Music branding as part of the campaign.

The production of the song was handled by Kimambo , resulting in a refined Bongo Flava sound that complements Mbosso’s emotional vocal performance. “Ozalima” also signifies his ongoing journey as an independent artist under Khan Music, where he is establishing his own creative vision after years of success in the Tanzanian music industry.

Mbosso, whose real name is Mbwana Yusuph Kilungi, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter recognized for his romantic hits, heartfelt vocals, and a style that fuses Bongo Flava, Afro-pop, and coastal love-song influences. He initially gained broader recognition as a member of Yamoto Band before achieving success as a solo artist.

The theme of “Ozalima” aligns with Mbosso’s well-known love-centric approach, utilizing emotion, melody, and cinematic storytelling to convey profound affection and romantic vulnerability. It is a song crafted for enthusiasts of heartfelt Bongo Flava and smooth Tanzanian love music.

Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Phina, also known as Saraphina, makes her return with a fresh single titled “Saladi.” This song showcases her playful, confident, and expressive style, addressing a relatable love scenario that speaks directly to romantic rivals and the accompanying drama that relationships can entail.

Saladi” was released on May 22, 2026, debuting as a new audio track, with official performance visuals set to be unveiled on the same day via Phina’s YouTube channel and her other social media accounts. The track is produced by Aloneym, with the visuals directed by Travellah.

Phina is among Tanzania’s rapidly emerging female Bongo Flava artists, recognized for her powerful vocals, commanding stage presence, and popular songs such as “Upo Nyonyo” and “Sponsor.” She has established a strong reputation in East African music through her unique ability to blend emotion, confidence, and everyday storytelling.

The theme of “Saladi” is light-hearted and humorous, centering on individuals contending with “vinyakunyaku” romantic rivals or those attempting to meddle in relationships. Phina employs the song to cleverly address this situation, reminding rivals that the man they are all vying for is merely one individual, thus they should exercise some compassion.
