The Smooth Vibes project was a groundbreaking record label in Tanzania, established in 1999 by the late media mogul Ruge Mutahaba and Joseph Kusaga under the Clouds Media Group. It is widely acknowledged as Tanzania’s first commercial record label, aimed at providing structure, management, and commercial viability to the emerging Bongo Flava music genre.

Ruge Mutahaba, the founder, explained, “When we started, the aim was to look for potential musicians and to have a platform to support them.” This initiative bridged the gap between raw talent and the extensive promotional reach of Clouds FM.

The project became a remarkable success story, launching the careers of iconic Tanzanian artists, most notably Lady Jaydee with her groundbreaking 2001 album Machozi, along with artists like Mr. Paul.

Under Clouds Entertainment, Smooth Vibes collaborated with Prime Time Promotions, creating an ecosystem that managed everything from studio production and event management to distribution and consistent airplay on the radio station.
